Not until the release of the Game Boy Advance has a portable console had the raw horsepower to create a convincing 3-D racer. Unfortunately, the developers behind Top Gear GT Championship seem to be blissfully unaware of this fact, and their creation really fails to impress.

Top Gear GT Championship is a simulation of the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship, and as such contains all the official cars and drivers–which are totally unknown to anyone outside of Nippon. This is the least of the game’s problems, though, because quite frankly it looks and controls like a rather sickly donkey. Although the graphics look good in static screenshots the road effect doesn’t have the whizzy “mode 7″ 3-D effect that titles such as Konami Krazy Racers and GT Advance use. Instead the road just sort of scrolls towards you out of the ether, very much in the style of old 80s coin-ops.

There are a useful number of ways to customise your vehicle before the race and there are some reasonably impressive weather effects, but unfortunately it’s not enough to save things. In short you’d be much better off getting GT Advance, which is much, much, better than this. –David Jenkins

I’ve been playing racing games since “Pit Stop 2″ on the Commodore 64 up to “GT3″ on the PS2, and this is one of the worst racing games I have ever had the misfortune to play. The cars handle like bricks – they’re either going straight, or they’re jerking to the side. You don’t get a sense of actually steering the car, like you do with most modern race games. If you wanted something to compare it to, I’d say it’s slightly worse than Sega’s old “Super Hang-On”. Thank heavens it was a present. If I’d paid money for this, I’d kick myself. If YOU’RE unfortunate enough to receive this – do not unwrap it! Demand the receipt and take it back to the shop! I quite literally cannot believe any software house would have the cheek to inflict such an awful game upon an innocent public.

In a nutshell:
Few kids films can be as well suited to video game immortalisation as Cars and just for once a movie license-in hasn’t just been used for a cheap cash-in. Think Ridge Racer, Jr. and there’s plenty to enjoy here for both adults and children.

The lowdown:
When you’ve got a movie populated solely by talking cars it at least means there’s no need to turn the game into yet another third person platformer. Instead you take the role of stock car Lightning McQueen in what is actually a sequel to the movie’s plot, as he works his way up the racing leagues. Whether there’s someone driving Lightning or not he still handles like any other arcade racer, complete with a handy powerslide. The artificial intelligence of the other cars can seem a bit too willing to let you win in the early stages but there are separate kids and adults modes to ensure all ages get a decent challenge.

Most exciting moment:
Although it’s not quite Grand Theft Auto the game features a surprisingly large game world for you to explore, with wide open canyons and towns filled with tons of side quests and mini-games to ignore or enjoy as you please.

Since you ask:
Almost the entire voicecast of the movie reprise their roles, recording original dialogue just for the game. This includes Owen Wilson and, in his first ever role in a video game, the legendary Paul Newman.

The bottom line:
One of the best movie tie-ins for a while and a decent little racer.

The game is quite good gameplay and has very good graphics for a gameboy advance game…the arrows telling you where to go aren’t that annoying and its quite good fun BUT… there’s only a about 20 levels which really isn’t that many considering there mainly races against the clock. There are only 4 different cars which is a bit annoying but you can change their colour but again would be nice to see a bit more. It would also be nice to see a multiplayer mode but sadly there isn’t. Overall I would say its a quite good game but don’t complete it too quickly! Because I completed it in a day!

My son, Jake, found this game was a bit too easy (he’s 10yrs old). The graphics were good but only featured races which got a bit boring, although there were different maps/levels. The races were either time trials or against other cars. He was disappointed that there are only 4 cars that he could choose to be. Overall he says it’s OK for younger children but too easy and boring for his age group.

This game uses all functions of the DS well. The gameplay takes place on the bottom screen with the top screen being an extension of the scene (also the help tips appear here). You can play as multiple different characters. You use the directional control pad (or the ABXY buttons for LH gamers!) to move each character (although the game is set in a 3D world, the actual gameplay is only 2D so you can only move side to side or up and down). You will need to use your stylus all the time to enable each character to perform their own unique ‘moves’ to enable progression through the game. The clever part of this game is the ability to switch between playing as different characters (e.g. Shrek, Puss and Artie at the beginning of the game), individually, in pairs and as a team, making them work together to get to the end of each level. Each character has different individual skills, and you will need to use them separately to access different parts of each level to allow the other characters to continue through to the end of the level. E.g., Puss is the only one who can jump to ledges and ‘roll attack’ through small gaps; Artie is the only one who can cross water by floating on his shield and activate some magic auras by throwing his shield at a glowing object above; Shrek can break weak floors or crash through walls. If you want to progress to the next level, you will need to have moved all 3 characters through to the end of the level so that they are standing in front of the Mystic Exit together, otherwise it won’t activate! Once you have selected the mode of play and the save slot, you will be taken through the story thus far. You need to turn the DS around by 90 degrees to view it as a 2-page book. The left page has stained-glass style artwork (as per the opening of the films), and the right page has the text of the story. The great thing about this is that Donkey actually narrates the story, embellishing the standard written text as only he can! This is great fun for all, but particularly good for young children who cannot read the story-book text very fast. After Donkey has finished his story telling, you are off to the Apprentice Hall where you find yourself playing as Shrek (on his own). After successfully progressing through the Apprentice Hall playing as all the 3 characters (separately and together) you start the game ‘proper’. There are 4 ‘worlds’ – Bogey Byway, Raiders Bay, Maze of Spades, Castlehoff. In each of these 4 worlds there are 4 levels to complete (3 levels and a final level). In each level you will need to collect a number of golden fairies and coins. You cannot proceed to the next world without first completing the previous world. It is a great game that uses all the functions of the DS well. It’s certainly not a difficult game, and perhaps aimed at the younger market, however I think adults will enjoy this game and not become too bored as you need to think on an additional ‘logical’ level to complete each level using mutliple characters. GAMEPLAY INFORMATION:- 2 MODES OF PLAY – a) single play, and (b) multiplay (where you can host a game or join a game using the NDS wireless capabilities); 3 separate SAVE SLOTS to save 3 separate games – enabling multi independent users; Great SOUND EFFECTS throughout the whole game – Donkey narrates the initial story and all the ‘help’ icons, plus each character will frequently make character-specific noises (Shrek farts and burps!); MAGIC allows you to do such things as help defeat enemies and access ledges for those characters that can’t jump – if you hold the L or R shoulder button, a purple haze will cover the screen, and you can use your magic on the objects you can see flashing through the haze; COLLECT 26 GOLDEN FAIRIES to break the spell and COLLECT 84 COINS to unlock bonuses and secrets; Collect MERLIN’S HOLOGRAM BOXES throughout gameplay to see what has recently happened in Far Far Away.

Hold on a minute here, I don’t get this, why are people buying cooling fans for their PS3’s? Does the PS3 have any heat issues? Listen, you are all voiding your warranties by adding these cooling fans to your PS3’s and xBox 360’s! Whats even worse is that most of them don’t help cool your consoles at all, if anything there have been reports where consoles have over heated and even melted as a result of using these cooling fans. I will not talk about the xBox 360 as most people already know about its heating issues, but the PS3 is very well made and has a really good cooling system! You’ll notice that your PS3 releases a lot of heat, most people get worried by this but this is a good thing. This is an indication that the PS3’s fans and other internal cooling systems are doing their job. Imagine if it didn’t and all that heat was retained inside the PS3 even for 10 minutes? The PS3 would shut off automatically and if it didn’t then it would melt! So its bloody good that it does release a lot oh heat. If it didn’t then I’d be worried if I were you! I’ve not yet heard of one complaint from anyone about the PS3 having heating issues and I would never use these cooling fans as they are made by third party companies and are not Sony approved. If PS3’s had a heating issue then its up to Sony to fix this. When you fork out something between ?300-430 for a gaming console, you should not have to buy cooling fans to keep the bloody thing cool! Anyway enough rumbling. The main thing here is that you will void your warranty if your system gets damaged as a result of using these cooling fans. Just MAKE SURE you keep the PS3 in a well ventilated area away from heaters etc. DONT place your PS3 inside TV cabinets etc, where there’s more likely to be less ventilation. And you shall not have any issues with the PS3. *** The new 40GB PS3 now has a 65nm cell processor instead of the 90nm cell processor used in the 60GB PS3’s. This means that the 40GB PS3 will require less energy to run which means less heat, which in turn means less noise. I’ve got a 60GB PS3 and my friend has the newer 40GB one, and his is super quiet and doesn’t seem to release much heat at all, unlike mine which is a bit more noisier than his and releases about twice the heat I’d say. Sony say that the 40GB PS3 is about 30% more efficient than the 60GB PS3. At the end of the day, its better technology, latest technology and that’s the way forward and so I shall follow. No backwards compatibility with PS2 games do I hear you say? Did you not have a PS2 before you bought the PS3 I reply! PS2 games will be extinct not so long from now!***

Customer Review: Great controller, if you’re short on money…
Usually, I won’t buy off-brand controllers, namely because I’ve had alot of bad luck with them in the past… But I needed another PS2 controller so I could play a game with my bros. I was short on money and couldn’t afford to buy the name-brand PS2 Dual Shock controller that I needed, so I began searching for a cheaper one.

I’m happy to say that my purchase of this controller is not one that I regret. The controll looks, feels, and plays exactly the same as an ordinary Dual Shock 2 controller!

However, this controller is not without it’s down sides, the cord is about a foot shorter than the one on the Dual Shock 2. The triangle, circle, X, and square buttons aren’t marked. I had to label them myself so I would know what buttons to press. But it’s not that bad, I just used some leftover labels for a blank VHS to mark them, but if you dont have those, a pen and some masking tape will do. And lastly, you have to apply a slight bit more thumb pressure to the buttons to get a reaction out of them.

Overall: I’m happy with my purchase of this controller. It’s a shame that the buttons weren’t marked, but I only paid 5 dollars for it, so I’m not complaining. Besides, it’s easy enough to mark them yourself.

However… If you’ve got the money, I recommend buying the name brand Dual Shock 2 controller. This controller is fine if you’re short on cash, but if you’ve got the money you’re better of buying the Dual Shock 2 for it’s extra cord length.

Note: Dont bother trying to mark the buttons using a permanant marker, it wont work.

Customer Review: Broken after a month and a half…
I first bought this product as a replacement for my wired xbox 360 headset (which is also broken), and at first it was a life-saver, the sound was clear, controlling it was easy and the battery lasted hours of gameplay. But then after a month the problems started, the headset began cutting out, just turning off in the middle of matches, and then finally it just died, the charging wouldn’t work, so I am currently preparing to send it back to amazon to amazon in hope of a replacement. There ae also numerous problems many people have had with this headset, just check the xbox forums.

It really is amazing how much more comfortable this is. I was chatting with a mate for half an hour and when I took the wired headset off my left ear was aching all day. Clip this on and it’s great! You don’t have to take it off to go to the kitchen or anywhere else and it’s cool letting a friend talk while you play without fumbling and having to set right beside them. You remember when you first got a wireless controller and whenever anyone walked in front you would move it to stop it snagging when you didn’t need to? It feels just like that. Unfortunately my friend trod on mine in a huge hiking boot, but it does mean I can get the Halo 3 one!

Yeah, Cooking Mama is a great game. When you start the game you get a menu: you can practice certain methods of preparing food (like slicing, cutting, saute, frying, folding dumplings…), combine two dishes from your menu to make it a bit more ‘fun’ if you are slightly bored, or you can play the normal game. I’d have to say, the best part of the game is practicing methods of cooking, as each is it’s own little minigame, some with different levels too. Think WarioWare Touched, but substitute random madness for cracking eggs, cutting meat, folding dumplings, coating meat and fish in flour, even guessing games (you have to guess what is shown in the top screen, and pick from a range of ingredients shown in the bottom screen). The ordinary game is where you can pick a dish (certain dishes unlock new ones, so you have to try them all!) and go through a variety of minigames in order to get a bronze, silver or gold medal (depending on the score you got) for that dish. In Combine Mode, you basically do the same, but combining the two dishes with a lot of your favourite minigames in each makes it enjoyable, and you can always combine two more different dishes if your bored. Cooking Mama is good, but eventually you get a little tired of doing the same thing over and over again. Although when I’m bored, I find it fun to pick up and attempt to beat your high scores. I’m currently aiming to get a Gold Medal in every dish on my Cook! Menu, which I’m halfway through. To sum this game up, I’d say: “Fun, but only while the excitement of preparing food on your DS lasts, which isn’t very long. If you can get this for less than ?20, then I’d say buy it, but it’s not worth paying more for it.”

Who could have thought there would be a game based on cooking, but here it is , Cooking Mama. Cooking Mama is well, a cooking game, your job is to follow mama’s instructions and make various dishes of food to varying degrees of fail in my case and varying degrees of success for most people, but I still love this game for one simple thing, its different, yes you heard me correctly, different, there is nothing like it, except Cooking Mama on the Wii. This is a game that I will defend to the hills and I did buy it with my own money, ?20 brand new from my local Gamestation, and I can say it was worth every penny. You will get a sense of higher self when you can make a sandwich and get 100 points .

A very fun, light run and gun-a-thon with the added bonus of using a lightsaber. The space ships levels are easy and enjoyable to play and can be revisited once they have been completed. If you like Star Wars and want something to play on you Game Boy after completting all your new games that you got for Christmas this is definatly worth a look……recommended.

Not a bad game, not a great game. Formulaic platform stuff you've all seen hundreds of times before, with a couple of slightly different shoot-em-up levels appearing on rare occasions. Graphics are put to shame by something like the Metroid GBA games, and sound leaves something to be desired. Still, fans of the movies (like me) will get a kick out of running through the familiar bad guys and backgrounds, and the increasing abilities to use the Force are quite cool, if completely underused. For each 'movie' you complete, you get rewarded with behind-the-scenes shots from the movies. Again, if you're a SW geek, this is pretty cool. With hindsight (having finished it) I would buy it again, particularly at the knock-down price.

I was a bit shocked at the violence at the start – first time I played it I beat someone to death during the tutorial. I suppose the Mafia aren’t known for the gentle approach though. Just started playing it a few hours ago and completed a few missions. Think it will be excellent fun for a long time – until GTA V comes out that is, then I’m switching my free time over to that. Very reminicent of GTA3 – car theft isn’t as ’smooth’ a transaction as it was on GTA 2 3 or 4 but a different experience. I am going home to do dish out some more beatings to some punks. The sound fx are superb on this. I am marking the game down to 4 start, since I was playing Assassins Creed for a while before I bought Godfather – the graphics are no contest to Assassins Creed, but Dons Edition is still a cracking game. Show it some respect or I’ll send Paulie round to dust you!

With 620 licensed teams, 30 offline leagues and 15,000 players as well FIFA might just have made enough new signings this year to put it over the top.

I love interesting, slow atmospheric games and so much about this game was satisfying. Right from the start I was impressed by the tube stations, the sounds and the realistic behavior of the other people. there are televisions you can watch whole films on! and loads of other nice touches like that. The voice acting is also first rate. the first world war levels are genuinely eerie in places. I’m very interested in toilets in games and I’d say this game has the best toilets yet, you can almost smell the urine. Things I was disappointed by included one or two glitches with sub missions. The overall depressing feel of the game. limited scope of the environments, for example what there is is excellent, but you go back there so many times, it would have been nicer to have a little more size and variety. A very interesting an original game though.
Customer Review: Atmospheric
This is a fairly slow FPS that’s strong on story and character development. It does quite a good job of building the atmosphere and I found the scenes in hell to be genuinely unsettling – there are only about 3 games that have ever had that effect on me. The Darkness powers add an original twist and it takes a while to get used to thinking your way through situations (running out all guns blazing usually leaves you dead).

If you have just the 1 controller yes its a bit piontless you can just use the USB cable that came with the console. But if you have 2 controller’s you can charge 1 why you use the other till it runs out of charge then just simply swap them so you always have one that’s fully charged. Plus it look’s a bit better than a black cable. Its somthing to consider.

Customer Review: Takes Forever!
While this is very handy if you don’t have more than one battery, or a wired controller, but if you do then it’s not very convenient, the reason being it takes absolutely ages to recharge the battery, we are talking hours upon hours and you’ll spend about quarter of your Xbox 360 gaming life effectively playing a wired controller. Sometimes it even keeps the console on even when you switch the unit off and carries on recharging, not something you want to do leaving your console whirring away all day if you have to go out to work. The best thing is to have the quick charge unit, there is no comparison, that thing is rapid, and can recharge a battery in around an hour or so, so if you have a spare battery you can alternate the two and get your backup done again in no time without ever using wires, or failing that if you have a regular wired controller, use that while you quickly recharge the battery in the quickcharge unit for an hour. The plus point is it’s only three quid more than the battery on its own but frankly if you have a quickcharge unit you won’t use it again after the first experience because it just takes so long.

I’ve got the White 360 the new 1 with a HDMI port and i got the 120gb HDD free with it because it was on offer. I had the old 360 and now my new 1 matches the elite, you do need the 120gb now because with the december update on xbox live market place, it allows you to download games on to your 360. Such as classic arcade games eg Sonic, Street fighter now it lets you get xbox original like Halo 1, Fable and many more also now map packs are in the 1gb+ so you do need it. Also once you upgrade you DON’T need a transfer cable off Microsoft, you can just recover your gamertag and then once you’ve done that anything you bought off marketplace you can re-download on to your new HDD because it knows you have paid for the download. I bought things lke Shivering isles exp for Oblivion and when i went to it, it had a tick next to it that showed i already paid for it so got it again. I think this is brilliant and now PS3 has nothing on 360!!!

120 gigabyte will be great for all those demos, videos ect… off Xbox live. All that space will mean you do not have to delete some things to make room for other downloads now and again. Obviously do not buy this if you don’t have Xbox live. A normal 360 game takes up about 100mb of memory space, which is nothing realy. But don’t buy it yet. It has already come down by 20 pounds in the last few months and it will keep dropping if people just don’t buy it!!!!

Customer Review: Red Ring of Death
Got the red ring of death today after only 10 months of use. Only solution is to send the console to Microsoft for repairs. This really is unbelievable.
