With repulsion levels at least comparable to Cannibal Holocaust, Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Blood Feast, and other gory slasher landmarks, Eli Roth’s Hostel 2 reconfigures ideas of violence to test how down and dirty a horror film can get. The film raises the stakes, leaving those who wish to make a sicker film out in the lurch for the time being. This sequel, like the first Hostel, is set in and around a Slovakian factory where European students are kidnapped, tortured, and killed by rich businessmen who pay enormous sums to experience death firsthand. An international elite, all tattooed with a bulldog insignia, bid on young people to slaughter in a mob-organized, high-end, sex-slave trade catering to those with a death fetish. In Hostel 2, three girls from Rome, Beth (Laura German), Whitney (Bijou Phillips), and Lorna (Heather Matarazzo), are lured to Slovakia by a sultry, vampiric hottie (Vera Jordonova) who modeled for them in figure drawing class. Sidetracked and disoriented by some Pagan Slovakian festivals and luxurious hot springs, the girls slip away one by one, until the film moves inside the torture chambers. One client sits in a bathtub beneath her victim, who she slices with a scythe to bathe in blood, Elizabeth Bathory-style. Body parts fly as clients entering the facilities select their weapons of choice in a room full of knives, power tools, and rubber clothing. As ridiculous as it sounds, haunting soundtrack and cinematography set a disturbing mood. Morbid humor, for example when a chainsaw unplugs centimeters from a victim’s face, pays homage to Hostel 2’s schlocky predecessors. Fortunately, one survivor remains, providing an ounce of vengeful, and sexy, satisfaction. As in the best exploitation films, gratuitous sex and violence are the norm here. What will be a warning to some to avoid this gruesome movie will be to others a cue to head straight to the theater. –Trinie Dalton

Customer Review: Still unimpressed by Roth’ “abilities”
It’s difficult to review something like this without spouting out the boring and cliche “OH MAN I’VE SEEN IT ALL AND YOU CAN’T SHOCK ME, THIS WASN’T GORY” But in one respect, it’s true: I’ve seen quite a lot in my 23 years, in film and real life, so to disturb me, to make me cringe you have to really search for the right nerve to strike because I don’t think mine are like everyone else’s; the one’s who think Jigsaw is so evil, and blah blah blah. This wasn’t not a gory film, in it’s context; it’s a mainstream horror movie, so showing a guy get his johnson snipped off is a bit more than the people who flocked to Return of the King are used to seeing. Nothing in this film made me cringe though, I’ve seen worse as far as genital amputation’s go (Germany’s Cannibal, which is basically disposable trash.) and just like the first in the series the use of music was really, REALLY, obnoxious, and those are one of my nails-on-the-chalkboard cinematic pet peeves; exploitation of the soundtrack to build suspense. The atmosphere was decent, the ambiance almost spot on, but then that stupid Michael Bay-ish music comes in and kills it. Roth seems to want to make true horror films, ones that don’t entertain but scar most people, but he’s got to realize in order to do something like that, more or less, you have to work away from the system, away from caring about if you get an R or NC-17; but, alas, he can’t seem to come to terms with that. All the films of the past that have really kicked people where it counts have been independent; Last House on the Left & Cannibal Holocaust immediately come to mind, and more recently stuff like Murder-Set-Pieces. I tried, tried, to enjoy this in, again, the context where it finds itself, but I just couldn’t. I understand, people are evil, and no matter how much they seem to be caring and sweet and like an extra out of High School Musical they can turn into vicious blood thirsty beasts, unworthy of sympathy or compassion; this isn’t Straw Dogs, though, and the message falls flat. Thus far Roth is 0-3 in my book, so chances are any further efforts will simply be passed over. At least the Bathory thing was at least semi-cool, but not by much. 2007 is apparently the “year of don’t bother going to the theater” I sincerely hope Eastern Promises, There Will be Blood & No Country for Old Men don’t follow this chain.

They say the third time’s a charm, but what if everything was already done right the first and second time around? That’s the hurdle Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 faces, as previous entries in this series are regarded by most gamers as perfect. But difficult as it is to believe, Pro Skater 3 introduces enough new features and great skate parks to make it another must-buy for PlayStation owners.
The biggest addition this time around is the revert, which when combined with the manual introduced in the previous game lets players string together some amazing vert and grind combos. Once again, every ledge you see in the game is grindable, and the massive levels are packed with switches, hidden areas, and other secrets that will take months to fully explore (and exploit).
Things are a little on the chunky side graphically, but that’s to be expected with the PlayStation. Regardless, the animation is smooth and the frame rate stays high despite the enormous and complex environments this game lets players explore. The eclectic soundtrack–which features acts from the Ramones to Del tha Funky Homosapien–is another highlight, but it’s still the Zen-like feeling you get from chaining together combo after outrageous combo that keeps you coming back for more. –T Byrl Baker

Customer Review: Was it worth the wait?
After playing THPS2 religously, I was really keen to get my hands on THPS3. This is a good game but didn’t live up to my (probably extremely high) expectations. I found the levels easy to complete and no real innovations when compared to the second game. I remember spending hours trying to get all the cash in the Bullring, however Tokyo can be finished in one run no problem. Considering the length of time it took to make I expected some improvements from the THPS2 engine. Don’t get me wrong though, this game is still worth getting, just don’t expect it to be that different from the THPS2 version.
Customer Review: Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 (PLAYSTATION)
Tony Hawks 3 is a good game and for the playstation the graphics are pretty good, after playing the ps2 version I have realised that the menu is slightly different but it is near enough the same, you can choose from the usual band of skaters, including Tony Hawk, Rune Clifberg and many others. The object of the game is to go around the massive levels, and complete challenges, (called tapes in previous versions) such as get a maximum number of points or pick up something from around the level, dont be excited if you thought that people would walk around, that is in the PS2 version, the revert and the manual help you to get massive combos and do the point challenges easily. The park editor is fairly basic, basically just the tony hawks 2 version with a few more options. The custom skater option is fairly good, even though I think there could be a few more options. The 2 player has trick attack, horse, tag and graffitti, you can also use the custom parks on 2 player. The game runs fast enough on the old playstation but the arms are still a bit chunky. I would recommend this to anybody who forgot to get a PS2 for christmas as it is better than thps2 or matt hoffmans pro bmx. If you have got a ps2 ignore all this and read a ps2 version review as it will include better thoughts and graphics. IF YOU CAN’T GET A PS2 BUY IT, OTHERWISE GET THE PS2 VERSION AND GTA3 WHICH IS A GREAT GAME.

Customer Review: Uncomfortable
As previously mentioned, very uncomfortable. Why they thought people wouldn’t want cushioning is beyond me. Sound quality is mediocore and I couldn’t find a use for the remote. I don’t use my PSP as an mp3 player really so your milage may vary.
Customer Review: Is this an original????
They’re great sending the product and was kept well informed, Price was good, whoever the quality of the remote seems strange. I have used hundreds of Sony Products and this one seems very cheap in it’s construction. I suspect that’s a Chinese version. My main reason for the purchase was to be able to chat over SOCOM however….it wont do it even though I remove all security settings as instructed. I have my doubts on the quality of the product.
